Gucci FW17, Milan

For Gucci Fall – Winter 2017 / 2018 collection, Alessandro Michele imagines a magic garden nhabited by plants, animals, signs and archetypes of fantastic worlds. Like in the laboratory of a Medieval alchemist, different elements are carefully selected, harmoniously assembled together and applied onto clothing. During this creative process, unexpected pairings and transformation break through the limits of reality, opening up to an infinity of new possibilities. As the alchemic practice was based on the transformation of metals into gold, Alessandro Michele’s for Gucci collection is a transformative whirl in which dualisms such as man and woman, ambivalences like light and shadow, good and evil, body and spirit swallow the deadly logic of non-contradition. Above everything, a sense of unity is preserved, which makes the collection extremely eclectic yet consistent. This unity is celebrated with the figure of Egyptian Ouroboros, a paradoxical symbol representing a snake that eats its own tale, which refers to the eternal process of self renewal.
